Darby resident Deborah Rogala has joined Peter Rosten’s House District 87 effort as the campaign manager. Rosten said she “brings invaluable experience as a public advocate” to the endeavor.

Rosten is the only announced candidate for the Democratic Party nomination to run for that seat in the state House of Representatives. Ron Stoker of Darby is the incumbent; he is being challenged for that party’s nomination by Al Milton, and they will face off in the June 3 primary.

“Deb’s community involvement record over the last 20 years is well-known throughout the Bitterroot Valley,” Rosten stated in a press release. From CARP to career counseling, grant writing to program coordination of Darby’s X-TREME Team, Deborah currently serves as a trustee elect for the Bitterroot Valley Community College.

“Deb and I share a common belief that we can do better and that we can do more for our community. I can’t think of anyone better to manage our campaign. I’m just really glad she said ‘yes’”, Rosten stated.

Peter and Deb met in 2006 when the X-TREME Team collaborated with Peter’s MAPS program to produce tobacco-prevention public service television announcements. The partnership between Darby High School teen filmmakers and MAPS resulted in two 30-second ads that are currently being aired nationally via a partnership with the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Ga.

Adds Deborah: “There are many reasons Peter is running but among them is that open communication and civility is sorely lacking in Helena and change will not occur without cooperation and innovation. Peter’s got some great ideas and I very much wanted to be part of this process.”
